Piraeus Port Authority (PPA), founded in 1930, runs and operates Piraeus Port the largest port in Greece and one of the most important ports in terms of facilitating EU trade. PPA employs more than 1.000 people and annually provides services to more than 24.000 ships. PPA is developing into a modern and dynamic company that provides high quality services, keeps investors satisfied, ensures long-term employment and serves commercial transactions in Greece in favour of the national economy and the consumers in the most efficient way and within the context of the global port industry. Piraeus is a major transhipment hub for containers and vehicles inbound to EU and the broader Mediterranean region from SE Asia, the Pacific and Indian oceans. Large scale investments were undertaken in container and car terminals within the last years thus supporting economic development through fast and reliable port services. Piraeus handles nearly 18 mil passengers, more than 3.6 mil TEU of containers and almost 0.5mil merchandise vehicles every year servicing trade routes with 4 continents. It is also certified by both LRQA and BV as per ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004.
