Field test in Zwolle
Field test in Ter Apel
The first phase of the D4FLY technologies testing in a real environment took place at the beginning of September in Zwolle, Netherlands at the premises of the Document and Identity Investigation Office of the Dutch immigration service (IND).
The Document and Identity Investigation Office (IND) works on fact-finding missions and information exchange with EU member states and contributes document expertise to EASO, iFADO, FRONTEX, BST and in the context of relocation.
TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research) developed tools to support the analysis of breeder documents. The tools are related to document anonymization, data extraction, recognition of printing techniques, matching of details (such as stamps), and detection of tactical anomalies based on expert knowledge.
D4FLY breeder document verification tools developed by TNO have been evaluated thoroughly by IND expert professionals providing valuable feedback for the next phase of the tools’ core functionalities development and Graphical User Interface (GUI) design. The aim is to achieve more effective analysis of breeder documents by obtaining a higher accuracy in detecting fraud.
Another D4FLY field test session run in hybrid mode (both physical and remotely), due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, in Ter Apel in Netherlands from 29th September to 1st October 2020 and was performed by the Dutch border guard (Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, RNM). The scope of this field test was to evaluate the D4FLY tools for travel document analysis including face morphing detection. The document analysis included, physical fraud detection in breeder documents, Kinegram analysis, printing technique recognition, travel pattern extraction, blockchain analysis, electronic passport verification, and face morphing detection.
D4FLY travel document analysis tools have been evaluated thoroughly by RNM document experts. People from TNO and Veridos were able to attend physically and demonstrated their technologies locally. People from BPTI, Fraunhofer-HHI, OVD-Kinegram, University of Reading and VTT showcased remotely their technologies while also border guards from SBGS, Lithuania attended remotely as an observer. A secure VPN connection had been setup for the remote showcase of the D4FLY technologies.
The first day of the field test sessions was allocated for technical installation and functionality validation and local and remote integration with the D4FLY platform offered by Veridos. User evaluation sessions where running during the next two days. The testing was completed successfully collecting significant data and feedback to guide the next phase of the tools and platform development.
