On the 18th and 19th of June 2020, D4FLY participated at a joint webinar of seven EU-funded H2020 Actions working on border security and crime-fighting technologies.
The event was organised by SMILE project with the contribution of D4FLY, PERSONA, MAGNETO, TRESSPASS, ROXANNE and PREVISION and attracted more than 100 security professionals, researchers and policymakers.
The webinar presentations and discussions where around ethical, social and legal challenges arising from the use of new technologies such as biometrics and artificial intelligence (AI) in law enforcement applications. The aim of this action was to foster the engagement of relevant stakeholders such as policymakers, agencies, industry, researchers and the public in establishing a technology security policy at both European and national level.
On the first day of the event, Lemonia Argyriou from NCSR Demokritos presented the D4FLY objectives and approach in developing innovative solutions for advanced document checks and fast-track identity verification while on the second day, Zachary Goldberg from Trilateral Research discussed how ethical theories contribute to the border security.
