Online workshop on User needs for Piraeus port pilot site

On Tuesday 28th of March 2020 we run a successful 5 hours online workshop led by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in defining user needs and use cases for cruise passengers management and port border control.

The workshop was organized as an online event in replacement of a pilot site visit at Piraeus Port that was postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

People form the Hellenic Police and the Port of Piraeus Authority gave insightful presentations, at the beginning of the workshop, introducing the port infrastructure, passenger traffic characteristics and current flow management, border control and management procedures and current needs and challenges.

Follow-up discussions took place focusing on the specification of the D4FLY use case for Cruise passengers enrollment and identity checks on-the-fly through innovative biometric technologies and smartphone applications aiming to address the issue of bottlenecks causing delays to the border control process.

23 people participated in the workshop including representatives from Veridos, VTT, NCSRD, NTNU, TNO, PPA, YDEAP, UK HOME OFFICE.
